Markets are trading higher but off day's high. All BSE sectoral indices are trading in green. The BSE bankex has outperformed the other sectoral indices; it was up over 4%. Strong buying interest is also seen in realty, power, capital goods, FMCG, oil & gas and auto indices. The BSE midcap and small cap indices are up over 2% each.
At 10.37 am the Sensex is up 426.99 points or 3.20% at 13776.64, and the Nifty up 125.75 points or 3.15% at 4114.30.
About 2011 shares have advanced, 884 shares declined, and 244 shares are unchanged.
Top gainers on the bourses are ICICI Bank at Rs 629.40 up 5.99%, Jaiprakash Asso at Rs 166.55 at 5.71%, ITC at Rs 181 up 5.36% and Reliance Infra at Rs 794.15 up 5.19%.
On the Sensex, out of 30 stocks only Hindalco was trading in down 1.34% at Rs 143.45.

Markets @ 9:56 am: Nifty above 4100; banks, realty, power, CG stks strong
Markets have rebounded strongly in opening trade following positive cues across the globe on the back of fall in crude price to $ 136 per barrel from all time high of $ 146 a barrel. Buying has seen in capital goods, auto, oil, banking, realty and power stocks.
At 9:56 am, the Sensex was up 477 points at 13,827 and Nifty up 129 points at 4,118. CNX Midcap was up 143 points at 5,327.
Market breadth is positive; 507 shares advanced while 47 shares declined.
Amongst frontliners, Reliance Petro, Reliance Comm, Cairn, Reliance Infra, BPCL, Suzlon, Power Grid, Idea, BHEL, Unitech, DLF, L&T, ACC, Ambuja Cements, Wipro, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Reliance Ind and HDFC have gained.
Crude prices plunged USD 5.33 to settle at USD 136.04 a barrel on the NYMEX.
Asian markets were trading higher. Nikkei was up 1.3%, Hang Seng 2.5%, Shanghai 3%, Kospi 0.8%, Taiwan 1% and Straits Times 0.9%.
US markets had another wild trading day of ups and downs but stocks ran to the finish line and pulled off a decent gain. Banks and technology stocks led the rally. Fannie Mae and Merrill Lynch bounced back sharply.
The Dow gained 152.25 points, or 1.36%, to 11,383.21. The S&P 500 advanced 21.39 points, or 1.71%, to 1,273.70, while the Nasdaq composite index added 51.10 points, or 2.28%, to 2,294.42.
